Like Jonah, we are prone to forget the Lord has pulled us out of darkness and brought us into His marvelous light, not because of our goodness, but because of His grace. We must be drawn back into His goodness regularly, learning to walk in the light, being merciful as our Heavenly Father is also merciful.
