The people of Judah, weakened by war and famine are unable to continue to stand. But instead of calling out to the Lord, instead of turning to Him in their trouble, they continue trusting in themselves even to the very last moment. May we be both warned and encouraged by their example—warned not to turn our ears away from God’s word, and encouraged by His faithfulness to keep His word and cause us to stand if we humble ourselves before Him.
